  • Name Nicholas MOSHIER OR MOSHER
    Born 1752
    • "Hannah Mosier, who married Heman Hurlburt, was the daughter of Nicholas Mosher, who married Sarah, the daughter of Weston Allen. I have been unable to find any record of Nicholas before he went to Canada. A note left by a descendant reads: "Nicholas Mosher -- U.E. Loyalist, landed in Canada in 1784 on the St. Lawrence river under Well's hill, 4 miles east of Brockville. Later in life he was called Major Mosher. He died between 1820 and 1830. He lived the last part of his life at or near Cobourg, Ontario. He had 10 daughters. Hannah, the eldest, married Heman Hurlburt." The census of Augusta, 5 April, 1796, lists Nicholas, his wife and 6 female children. The 1813 census of Augusta lists Nicholas, unmarried, no children."

Note on Nicholas Mosier, added by G.R.Hurlburt to the above:
"I now think I have some proof as to the parents of Nicholas." (1977)

"Soon after Nicholas's marriage, the family moved to the Eastern District of Augusta and Nicholas served as a Corporal in the Royal Rangers. He and all of his children, except Hannah, received grants for his service. He sold his lot in Augusta in 1802 as a resident of Hamilton, Northumberland County, and he was there in 1806. He was in Hope, Durham County by 1809, operator of a grog shop at least part of the time before his death."
